Bursa Malaysia continues downtrend at mid-morning amid cautious trading

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 — Bursa Malaysia continued its downtrend at mid-morning, weighed down by selling in key index-linked heavyweights, as a conservative stance persisted among investors.

At 11.10am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 2.86 points to 1,581.98 compared with Tuesday’s close of 1,584.84. The benchmark index opened 1.62 points lower at 1,583.22.

In the broader market, decliners thumped gainers 460 to 244, while 455 counters were unchanged, 1,166 untraded and 10 suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.58 billion units worth RM873.98 million.

Of the heavyweight counters, Maybank and Tenaga Nasional shed two sen each to RM10.52 and RM13.92, respectively, CIMB slipped seven sen to RM8.33, Public Bank eased one sen to RM4.49 while IHH Healthcare was flat at RM7.28.

Ingenieur Gudang led the active counters, falling half-a-sen to 5.5 sen, MYEG was two sen lower to RM1.01, and Hartalega fell six sen to RM2.55. Top Glove was flat at RM1.00, and Kossan Rubber increased one sen to RM1.98.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index fell 23.59 points to 11,980.63, the FBMT 100 Index was 23.07 points lower at 11,693.27, but the FBM Emas Shariah Index declined 11.66 points to 11,684.67.

The FBM 70 Index slashed 42.22 points to 17,494.96, and the FBM ACE Index trimmed 11.04 points to 5,063.45.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index deducted 54.50 points to 19,319.58, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched down 0.35 of-a-point to 162.75, the Plantation Index lost 0.50 of-a-point to 7,429.58, and the Energy Index erased 1.25 points to 790.53. — Bernama
