Under construction expressway bridge collapse in Bangkok: Five dead, 27 Injured

BANGKOK, March 15 —Early this morning, a concrete beam from an under-construction expressway bridge near Rama 2 Road in Chom Thong district, Bangkok, collapsed resulting in the deaths of at least five people and injuring approximately 27 others.

The Bangkok Post reported that the incident occurred around 1:48am near Rama 2 Soi 25, close to the Rama III-Dao Khanong expressway.

Reports indicate that the concrete beam, located about 200 metres from an expressway entrance, fell onto an existing expressway structure.

More than 20 workers were present at the site during the collapse.

Rescue teams and officers from the Bangkok Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department responded to the scene, utilising sniffer dogs and specialised equipment to locate and assist survivors trapped in the rubble.

As of 7am, five workers were confirmed dead, and at least 27 others were injured.

Rescue efforts continued as four victims were recovered from the debris, with one body still missing.

The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
